BaFin compliance requires more than technical safeguards: it demands documented governance, traceable decision paths and verifiable controls. First you must clearly define which processes the AI supports and which legal requirements apply. If the system is responsible for credit decisions, risk classifications or customer advice, different regulatory standards come into play.
On the technical side, comprehensive audit logs, versioning of models and training datasets, as well as clear model risk assessment processes are central. That means: every model change, every data source and every training run must be documented and reproducible. These artifacts form the basis for audits and evidence to supervisory authorities.
Data protection is another cornerstone: DPIAs, data minimization and controlled data access are mandatory.
