Old plastics will become a resource that trawlers go fishing for
I've had the thought since 10+ years now: in the future, old plastics will become such a valuable resource that fishermen who are out of jobs due to overfishing, go plastics fishing instead.
Now The Ocean Cleanup shows us the way with their prototype-grade systems.
In parallel researchers around the world (I know one ;) Patricia Falkenstein) are working on processes to recycle such plastics in a way that it is as good as new.
So, once the prices for new plastics go up due to e.g. CO2 taxes on oil production, old plastics in the Great Garbarge Patch will become a valuable resource to go fishing for.
